Haddad prioritizes public safety and the interior in pre-campaign for São Paulo Governor

Former minister Fernando Haddad's pre-campaign for the São Paulo governorship is prioritizing public safety and the state's interior regions. While education and the privatization of Sabesp are key themes, security is at the forefront. Haddad has recently toured regions like Campinas and the northwest, visiting cities such as Jales, Fernandópolis, Votuporanga, Catanduva, and São José do Rio Preto.

The campaign is making efforts to connect with diverse groups, including agribusiness and the business community, despite its roots in worker, student, and left-wing movements. Haddad's schedule has included discussions on his book "Superindustrial Capitalism" at the Federal University of the ABC and meetings with various political groups. The PT São Paulo president, Kiko Celeguim, emphasizes the need to equip the party's base with arguments to engage undecided voters and counter the "Bolsonarist front."

There is a concerted effort to reach beyond the traditional base. Haddad, accompanied by running mate Márcio França and Senate pre-candidates Simone Tebet and Marina Silva, recently met with business representatives and the sugarcane sector. The campaign believes practical issues will influence voter decisions, highlighting investments from the PAC and criticizing potential tariffs imposed by the U.S. president on Brazilian products. Haddad has stated readiness to engage with any sector, stressing the importance of state and national interests.

Another significant point of focus is the privatization of Sabesp, with criticisms directed at potential tariff increases and service quality decline. A March Datafolha poll indicated Sabesp as the primary cause for water rationing in the state. The campaign seeks to contrast its approach with that of the incumbent governor, Tarcísio de Freitas.
