Haenam County's AI Education Yields International Award for Local Students

Students from local children's centers in Haenam County, South Korea, have achieved international recognition by winning silver and bronze medals in the AI Racing category at the 3rd AI International Convergence Robot Competition (AIIRC). This achievement highlights the success of Haenam County's digital education initiative, which aims to bridge the digital divide in rural areas.

Students who participated in the 'AI Racing' event at the 3rd AI International Convergence Robot Competition (AIIRC) won silver and bronze medals, respectively.

The AI Racing competition requires participants to collect driving data, train deep learning models, and apply them to autonomous robots. It assesses a comprehensive understanding of data collection and AI modeling, going beyond simple mechanical operation. The students' success demonstrates the effectiveness of the program in equipping them with advanced technological skills.

Haenam County launched this digital education program as part of its Education Development Special Zone project. Recognizing the limited access to digital education in its rural fishing and farming communities, the county established AI training programs centered at local children's centers. This initiative ensures that children in geographically isolated areas can access quality digital education.

This award is the result of the digital education support that Haenam County has been promoting as part of the Education Development Special Zone project.

The program involves private EdTech instructors providing practical training from data collection to model application. Local children's center associations support the initiative by securing training spaces and offering on-site guidance. The program has grown significantly, expanding from 5 centers in 2023 to 11 centers this year, with a commitment to include all local children's centers by 2028 and continuously enhance related educational programs.
