Hajj Management Policy Improvements to Be Announced

Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) is in the final stages of refining its Hajj management policies, with improvements expected to be announced soon. The enhancements are designed to provide a clearer, more organized, and systematic approach to the Hajj pilgrimage, emphasizing the concept of 'istito'ah,' or the ability to undertake the journey.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr. Zulkifli Hasan stated that these improvements address recommendations from the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) concerning Hajj management, particularly regarding eligibility and waiting periods. He emphasized that strengthening TH's governance contributes to better service quality for Malaysian pilgrims.

TH takes note of the recommendations from the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) regarding policy changes in Hajj management, especially concerning Hajj eligibility and waiting periods.

Despite a significant increase in inflation, TH has managed to keep the Hajj cost stable at RM33,300 for three consecutive seasons, from 2024 to 2026. This stability has been achieved by controlling airfare costs through long-term contracts and negotiating direct hotel rental agreements, bypassing third parties. These measures have been implemented even as inflation has risen 250% since the financial assistance for Hajj was introduced in 2001.

Under strong leadership and professional management, TH has reportedly returned to a more stable and sustainable path through strategic planning, reforms, and improved governance, operating without government interference. Additionally, TH depositors can be assured that the agency's zakat (charity) obligations are managed meticulously and in accordance with Islamic law, guided by a Sharia Advisory Committee.
