Hamas Demands Phased Israeli Withdrawal from Gaza Under Trump-Backed Plan

Hamas is demanding a phased withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip, insisting it must be in line with a ceasefire and disarmament process outlined in a plan by former U.S. President Donald Trump. This demand comes as mediators work to advance the next stages of a proposed ceasefire framework.

Mediating countries, including Egypt, the U.S., Qatar, and Turkey, are reportedly preparing for an upcoming meeting. The discussions are expected to focus on the implementation of the second phase of the roadmap. This phase is crucial for finalizing arrangements concerning the withdrawal of Israeli troops, the future administration of Gaza, security mechanisms, and humanitarian issues, based on an agreement reached by Hamas and other Palestinian factions.

Ghazi Hamad, a senior Hamas political bureau member and part of the negotiation delegation, stated that weapons stockpiles would be supervised by the Palestinian National Committee and would not be under Israeli control. He stressed that the agreement mandates Israel to reopen all border crossings and cease targeted killings.

"As soon as the agreement is approved, Israel must implement all its commitments without any delay. If Israel does not comply with the agreement, we will not comply either," Hamad declared. Despite Hamas reporting progress, some Palestinian groups are urging for clear guarantees and commitments from Israel before proceeding with the agreement's implementation.
