Hamas network organizing protests, fundraising in Netherlands: Dutch intelligence

The Dutch General Intelligence and Security Service (AIVD) has issued a stark warning regarding the activities of a Hamas network within the Netherlands. Their annual report for 2025 reveals that this network has been actively involved in organizing pro-Palestinian demonstrations, engaging in propaganda, lobbying, and fundraising for the designated terrorist organization. While these protests did not escalate into violence last year, the AIVD cautions that they possess the potential to sow division within Dutch society.

This revelation comes amidst a broader European context of heightened security concerns. The AIVD is investigating potential national security threats stemming from Hamas activities, particularly following a series of arrests across Europe linked to cells allegedly planning attacks on Jewish or Israeli targets. The report specifically mentions a network of about ten individuals connected to these cells operating within the Netherlands as part of a larger European Hamas network.

Furthermore, the AIVD has paid special attention to Samidoun Netherlands, identified as a potential branch of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. While the threat posed by this group is deemed limited, their propaganda efforts are recognized as a potential catalyst for radicalization and polarization. The report notes that while Samidoun does not explicitly call for violence, it does glorify it against Israelis.
