Hawaii Governor, Key Congress Members Win Democratic Primaries

Hawaii Governor Josh Green, a physician, has secured a decisive win in the state's Democratic primaries, advancing to the general election where he will face Republican businessman Gary Cordery. Green, who has held the governorship since 2022, garnered 81.8% of the vote in Tuesday's primaries.

U.S. Representative Ed Case also won his primary, defeating state senator Jarrett K. Keohokalole, who represented the progressive wing of the Democratic Party. Case, a more conservative Democrat, secured 55.7% of the vote. Keohokalole received 35.6%.

Case, 76, has served in the House of Representatives since 2019 for Hawaii's first congressional district. He was notably one of four Democrats who joined Republicans in supporting the controversial Save America Act, which imposes citizenship verification for voter registration.

Another incumbent, U.S. Representative Jill Tokuda, also achieved a significant victory in her primary, winning with 83.4% of the vote. Tokuda, a member of the House Agriculture Committee, previously served as a state senator for twelve years.
