National Party wants to return to government so Uruguay 'can regain its direction'

Uruguay's opposition National Party is setting its sights on returning to power in the 2030 general elections, aiming to "restore the country's direction." Party leadership is rallying members to focus on building a future vision for the nation.

The first milestone of this future history that we must build together is to govern the country again starting in 2030 so that Uruguay can regain its direction and so that people can regain hope.

Álvaro Delgado, president of the National Party's board, urged party members to "build the history of the future," stating that the primary goal is to govern the country again starting in 2030. He expressed concern that many people feel discouraged and hopeless, and he stressed the party's obligation to create an option that restores hope. Delgado warned that a lack of hope leads to resignation, and his party intends to replace "resignation with illusion."

We have the obligation to build an option that restores the hope that people need.

Delgado criticized the current government, led by the ruling Frente Amplio coalition, for its perceived lack of direction and results. He stated that the National Party will not wait for the government to make mistakes, which he claims happen frequently. Instead, the party must proactively construct an alternative that offers the necessary hope to the citizens.

We cannot wait for the government to make mistakes, which it does often. We will not wait. We will not continue to demand the lack of direction and obviously the lack of results. We have to build that option that ends up bringing people the hope they need.

He also emphasized the importance of humility and continuous listening to the population. Furthermore, Delgado stressed the need to safeguard the accomplishments of the previous administration led by former President Luis Lacalle Pou (2020-2025), warning against efforts to dismantle positive changes due to ideological prejudices that might override national interests.
