Heat returns after the cool spell: what weather awaits Astana and Almaty

Kazakhstan is bracing for a return of intense heat across its major cities, Astana and Almaty, following a recent period of cooler weather. Meteorologists predict a significant temperature increase in the coming days.

In Astana, the weather on August 12 will be partly cloudy with no precipitation. Northwest to north winds will blow at 9-14 m/s, with gusts up to 18 m/s at night. Daytime temperatures will range from 26-28°C, rising to 28-30°C on August 13. By August 14, the city can expect partly cloudy skies and no precipitation, with northeast winds at 9-14 m/s, pushing daytime temperatures to a high of 32-34°C. Nighttime temperatures will also climb, reaching 16-18°C on August 14.

Almaty, meanwhile, will experience scorching heat. On August 12, the city will see partly cloudy skies with no rain, and southwest winds at 3-8 m/s. Daytime temperatures will soar to 34-36°C. The following two days, August 13 and 14, will bring partly cloudy conditions with brief daytime rain and thunderstorms. Southwest winds will remain at 3-8 m/s, with gusts up to 13 m/s on August 14. Daytime temperatures are expected to remain intensely hot, hovering between 35-37°C on both days.

Earlier forecasts indicated that Kazakhstan would experience contrasting weather patterns, with some regions facing rain and thunderstorms, possibly accompanied by hail and squalls, while southern areas could see temperatures climb as high as 44 degrees Celsius. This shift signals a return to more extreme conditions after a brief reprieve.
