Heavy rain and hail hit Klaipėda, Tauragė and Palanga

Heavy rain and hail swept parts of western Lithuania on Tuesday morning, with residents sharing images from Klaipėda, Palanga and Tauragė. In Tauragė, hailstones fell during the downpour.

Meteo LT said the most active rain clouds were concentrated over Klaipėda, Telšiai and Tauragė counties and would move northeast in the following hours. The system was expected to remain active in western Lithuania and reach Šiauliai County, bringing thunderstorms in many areas.

Forecasters warned that the heaviest showers could briefly disrupt daily life. Visibility on roads could deteriorate, while water could accumulate in lower-lying areas and sections of roads. Drivers were advised to reduce speed and keep a greater distance from other vehicles.

Rain was expected to spread across a larger part of the country during the afternoon. Daytime temperatures were forecast to reach 18 to 23 degrees Celsius, with southwest winds turning westerly and reaching 7 to 12 meters per second. Coastal gusts could reach 15 meters per second, while thunderstorm gusts could reach 16 to 20 meters per second.
