Heavy rain, flash floods forecast in several provinces

The Ministry of Water and Energy's forecast of heavy rainfall and flash floods across several Afghan provinces, as reported by Pajhwok Afghan News, signals a significant weather alert for the nation. The warning, issued for May 3-4, covers a wide swathe of the country, including the northern regions, Kabul, and the Panj Amu river basins, as well as adjoining catchment areas.

The potential for flooding poses a serious risk to communities situated near rivers in provinces such as Faryab, Sar-e-Pul, Balkh, Samangan, Logar, Maidan Wardak, Kabul, Panjshir, Kapisa, Parwan, Nangarhar, Laghman, Kunar, Nuristan, Badakhshan, Takhar, Kunduz, and Baghlan. The ministry's advisory to residents to avoid proximity to rivers during periods of high water levels is a crucial safety measure aimed at preventing potential casualties.

Adding to the concern, the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has also issued warnings regarding heavy rain, thunderstorms, and flash floods in specific provinces, including Badakhshan, Takhar, Kunduz, Baghlan, Samangan, Parwan, Panjshir, Nuristan, Kunar, Nangarhar, and Logar. Forecasts indicate rainfall ranging from 10 to 30 millimeters, accompanied by wind speeds of 50 to 85 kilometers per hour in central and southeastern areas.
