Heavy rain forecast for South Korea over holiday weekend

South Korea is bracing for significant rainfall as cloudy skies dominate the forecast for the Liberation Day holiday weekend. Heavy and abundant rain is expected, especially across the southern provinces and the island of Jeju, continuing until the morning of August 17th.

The Korea Meteorological Administration has issued a forecast predicting substantial precipitation nationwide. While central regions might see showers, the southern and Jeju areas are particularly vulnerable. Expected rainfall totals vary, with some southern coastal areas and mountainous regions like Jirisan potentially receiving over 200mm of rain. Heavy rain advisories are possible in these southern regions and Jeju.

From the afternoon of this day to the morning of the day after tomorrow, it will rain nationwide, and especially in the southern regions and Jeju Island, there will be very strong and heavy rain in some places.

In addition to the heavy downpours, the weather agency warns of strong winds, thunderstorms, and lightning accompanying the rain. Residents are advised to exercise caution. Despite the inclement weather, daytime high temperatures are expected to be within the seasonal average, ranging from 27 to 33 degrees Celsius across the country.

The forecast indicates that rain will begin in the southern coastal areas of Gyeongnam and Jeonnam, and Jeju on the afternoon of the 15th. It will spread to Jeolla and Gyeongnam on the evening, and to the southern parts of Chungcheong and Gyeongbuk by night. From August 16th to the morning of the 17th, most of the country will experience rain.
