Heavy showers expected in Seoul, Gangwon; summer heat persists

South Korea's capital region and Gangwon Province are bracing for heavy showers on Tuesday, accompanied by strong winds, thunder, and lightning. The Korea Meteorological Administration forecasts that these conditions could bring between 5 to 60 millimeters of rain in affected areas, including parts of Gyeonggi Province, Seoul, Incheon, and northern Gangwon.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country will continue to swelter under a heatwave, with daytime temperatures expected to soar to 36 degrees Celsius in some areas. The highest perceived temperatures are predicted to hover around 33 degrees Celsius, potentially reaching 35 degrees Celsius in some regions like the Seoul metropolitan area, eastern Gangwon, Chungnam, and southern parts of the country. Tropical nights, where nighttime temperatures remain above 25 degrees Celsius, are also likely in urban and coastal areas.

Authorities are urging residents to take precautions. The heavy downpours may cause flash floods, and drivers are advised to maintain safe distances and reduce speed due to reduced visibility. The combination of intense heat and potential storms poses a risk of accidents and health issues, including heatstroke. Fine dust levels are expected to remain at 'good' to 'normal' levels across the country.
