Heist Like in the Movies in London: Three Romanians Dug a Tunnel to a Jewelry Store

A meticulously planned heist in London took an unexpected turn when three Romanian men were caught by police in the act of digging a tunnel from a neighboring massage parlor directly into a jewelry store.

The accused, identified as Ioan Asafeti, 39, Laurențiu-Daniel Nițisoara, 38, and Sergiu Plastin, 42, all pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit a robbery. Their operation was discovered on July 17 around 3 a.m. following a tip-off about an ongoing burglary.

Nițisoara was apprehended nearby, and Asafeti was found hiding on a building's roof shortly after. Plastin attempted to flee the country but was arrested later the same day at Stansted Airport, apparently en route to Ireland. Police discovered a hole dug through a wall in the massage parlor leading to the jewelry store, along with bags containing digging tools and equipment.
