Hezbollah Leader: Lebanon-Israel Agreement is Capitulation and Humiliation

Hezbollah's leader Naim Kassem has vehemently rejected a preliminary agreement between Lebanon and Israel, labeling it a "humiliating, shameful abandonment of sovereignty." Kassem asserted on Saturday that the deal, signed the previous day, holds no value and should be superseded by an agreement between the United States and Iran. He accused the Lebanese government of accepting Israeli occupation of parts of the country by endorsing the U.S.-mediated accord. The agreement, intended to foster lasting peace, has been met with strong opposition from Hezbollah, a powerful group operating outside the control of the Lebanese government, which seeks to disarm it. Kassem declared the preliminary deal "invalid," advocating instead for the implementation of a preliminary agreement reached between the U.S. and Iran last week. This U.S.-Iran document proposes a halt to fighting on all fronts, including Lebanon, and guarantees the country's territorial integrity and sovereignty. However, Iranian officials have previously indicated that Israel's withdrawal from southern Lebanon is a prerequisite for a final U.S.-Iran agreement.
