Hezbollah Leader Urges Lebanon to Cancel Peace Talks with Israel

In a significant escalation of rhetoric, Hezbollah has directly challenged the Lebanese government, demanding the cancellation of imminent peace talks with Israel. Naim Qassem, the deputy leader of the powerful Iran-backed militant group, declared that any negotiations with the "occupying power" Israel are futile and urged the Lebanese government to make a decisive move to halt the proceedings.

Speaking via television, Qassem unequivocally stated Hezbollah's refusal to surrender to Israeli aggression. He implored the Lebanese government to "cancel this negotiation while there is still time" and to make a "historic and heroic decision." This strong stance comes just ahead of crucial talks scheduled to take place in Washington, D.C., aimed at exploring a potential ceasefire, the long-term disarmament of Hezbollah, and the possibility of a comprehensive peace agreement between Lebanon and Israel.
