Ho Chi Minh City Drafts Compensation Plan for Van Thanh Canal Project, Highest Rate Near 257 Million VND/m²

Ho Chi Minh City has publicly disclosed draft compensation rates for the Van Thanh canal dredging and improvement project, setting the highest price for urban residential land at nearly 257 million Vietnamese dong (VND) per square meter. This rate applies to prime locations on Dien Bien Phu Street, a key area affected by the project.

The project, aimed at dredging and improving the environment and infrastructure of the Van Thanh canal in Thanh My Tay Ward, will impact a total of 1,021 households. Of these, 329 will experience partial land acquisition, while 692 will have their land fully acquired. The draft plan outlines compensation for land use rights, with rates differing based on the land's position and type.

For agricultural land, the highest compensation rate is nearly 18.1 million VND per square meter for perennial crops in prime areas. Annual crop land compensation ranges from over 9.8 million to more than 15.4 million VND per square meter. The total land area to be acquired for the project is approximately 237,300 square meters.

Regarding resettlement, the draft plan anticipates providing housing for 749 households that are fully displaced. The available housing includes 391 apartments across various locations, such as Phan Chu Trinh Street and Le Quang Dinh Street. Affected residents who qualify can choose between resettlement apartments, social housing units, or monetary compensation to secure their own accommodation.
