Ho Chi Minh City Highway Expansion: Land Clearance Reaches 52% in Bà Điểm Commune

The expansion of National Highway 22 in Ho Chi Minh City is progressing, with the Bà Điểm commune reporting that 52% of the required land has been cleared for the project. This significant infrastructure development aims to widen the crucial route to 10 lanes, enhancing traffic flow and connectivity.

Authorities in Bà Điểm are actively engaging with the remaining 140 households affected by the expansion. The commune has established three special working groups tasked with disseminating project information, explaining resettlement policies, publicizing adjusted compensation rates, and recognizing residents who voluntarily hand over their land. Commune Chairman Nguyễn Tuấn Anh stressed the importance of understanding the legal basis, circumstances, and aspirations of each affected household, advocating for tailored communication strategies.

The commune is focused on persuading the remaining 140 cases to hand over the land.

The project involves the compensation, support, resettlement, and relocation of infrastructure for the improvement of Lê Quang Đạo Street, the former National Highway 22, within Bà Điểm. Out of 264 affected cases, 114 households have successfully agreed to the terms, alongside the resolution of 10 public land cases. The commune plans to intensify project promotion through media, radio systems, and social media platforms.

Once completed, the 8.7 km expansion project, with an estimated investment of over 10.4 trillion VND (approximately $410 million USD), is expected to significantly alleviate traffic congestion at the northwestern gateway of Ho Chi Minh City. It will also bolster the connection between the city and Tây Ninh province. The project includes the construction of seven flyover intersections at key junctions along the route. The highway is slated for completion by 2028.
