Home Affairs Minister Optimistic Public Housing Programs Will Drive Regional Progress

Indonesian Minister of Home Affairs, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, expressed strong optimism regarding the potential of public housing programs to significantly contribute to regional development across the country. Speaking at a dialogue with developers in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, Tito highlighted that the economic ripple effects generated by these housing initiatives are expected to indirectly bolster local economies and increase Regional Original Revenue (PAD).

Tito emphasized the central government's commitment to addressing the housing needs of low-income communities. This commitment is manifested through supportive policies, such as exemptions on taxes related to land and building acquisition (BPHTB) and building permit fees (PBG) for eligible residents. He urged regional governments to actively support these programs, recognizing their role in poverty alleviation and economic stimulation.

This, in turn, provides a sustainable avenue for regions to increase their PAD through sources like property taxes (PBB), ultimately fostering more robust and self-sufficient regional economies.
