Hondurans Rate President Asfura's Government 3.82 Out of 10, Cite Trump Influence

Hondurans have given President Nasry 'Tito' Asfura's government a low rating of 3.82 out of 10, signaling a clear "reprobation" of his administration, according to a public opinion poll released Tuesday.

Mercy Ayala, coordinator of Research and Human Rights at the organization ERIC-SJ, stated that the score reflects a negative assessment of Asfura's term, which began on January 27 for a four-year mandate. The survey, conducted by ERIC-SJ between May 12 and 23 with 1,559 participants, also found that 51.1% of respondents believe Asfura's government represents a positive change, while 45.7% perceive it as negative.

A striking finding of the poll is the widespread belief that former US President Donald Trump's public support significantly influenced the 2025 elections. A total of 80.7% of those surveyed believe Trump's backing impacted Asfura's candidacy, and 50.5% think it influenced the victory of the National Party. ERIC-SJ director Germán Rosa described this as "direct intervention" and "flagrant interference" by Trump, with 68.3% of Hondurans feeling Trump "greatly" influenced the elections.

The poll also highlights deep political polarization and a "severe deficit of political legitimacy" in Honduras. Regarding who manipulates President Asfura, 37.3% pointed to the US government, 15.6% to powerful domestic sectors, and 12.9% to former president Juan Orlando Hernández. The survey identified the economic situation as the primary national challenge for 24.6% of respondents, followed by unemployment (23.9%) and crime.
