Housekeeper Scams Elderly Couple Out of $40,000 in Cash and Jewelry

A 32-year-old housekeeper from Albania has been identified by authorities for defrauding elderly residents in the affluent Athenian suburbs of Ekali and Agia Paraskevi. The woman allegedly stole a total of 40,000 euros in cash and jewelry, according to police sources.

Operating under false pretenses, the suspect presented herself as a domestic helper, gradually earning the trust of her victims. She reportedly offered advice on health matters, further solidifying her position before exploiting opportunities to steal valuable items from the homes where she was employed.

One victim recounted placing an online ad for a housekeeper to assist with her husband's health issues. The suspect contacted her, quickly gained her confidence, and was hired. The victim stated the housekeeper claimed to have a child, live in Gerakas, and be from Italy. While the housekeeper was supposedly caring for the ill husband, she was allegedly preparing to steal.

I put an ad online looking for a housekeeper for a few hours to look after my husband who has health problems. She contacted me, immediately gained my trust, gave me advice on what to do with his health, and I decided to hire her. She even told me she had a child, lived in Gerakas, and was from Italy.

The victim, suspicious, placed her husband's wallet containing 80 euros in a locked drawer in another room, leaving only the balcony door slightly ajar. The housekeeper visited the home about four to five times. On her last scheduled visit, she never arrived, and her phone went unanswered. Upon returning home, the victim discovered the wallet missing, and later realized valuable jewelry had also been stolen.

Investigators from the Kifissia Security division identified the suspect, who has a prior record for similar offenses and was previously linked to a criminal group involved in thefts. She was apprehended in Ekali and subsequently released by an investigating judge on the condition that she report to her local police station once a month.
