Howe Worried Arsenal May Target Newcastle Star Guimarães

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has expressed concern that Arsenal might lure star midfielder Bruno Guimarães away with a lucrative offer. The 28-year-old Brazilian international has become a primary target for the Premier League champions, reportedly with a bid of 70 million pounds (RM381 million) following his consistent performances for Newcastle.

Guimarães is currently on holiday after representing Brazil in the 2026 World Cup and is expected to rejoin Newcastle's pre-season training camp in Spain soon. This situation evokes difficult memories for Howe, who lost striker Alexander Isak to Liverpool after a prolonged transfer saga last season. "I don't want to lose our best player. I've spoken to him as usual. Bruno is a great individual and we often discuss things before, during, and after the World Cup," Howe said.

Howe admitted uncertainty about Guimarães's future, acknowledging that many discussions are happening, some of which he is not privy to. Arsenal is said to have shifted focus to Guimarães after deciding not to match Chelsea's 117 million-pound (RM637 million) offer for England forward Morgan Rogers. Despite the speculation, Howe remains optimistic that Newcastle's captain will stay loyal to the club.

"There is nothing to suggest Bruno will not return to train with us. He is the team captain, an exceptional player and person during our time working together," Howe stated. "I speak on behalf of everyone at the club. We value him greatly, and of course, everyone wants him to stay at Newcastle."
