Hsinchu County Dragon Boat Race Opens Registration with New Completion Bonus

Hsinchu County is gearing up for its much-anticipated annual Dragon Boat Race, set to take place on June 19th at the Chi Ho Lake in Xinfeng Township. This vibrant cultural and sporting event, a staple of the Dragon Boat Festival celebrations, is now open for registration, inviting teams from government agencies, schools, businesses, community groups, and water sports enthusiasts to compete. The county government has introduced an exciting new incentive this year: a NT$2,000 completion bonus for every team that crosses the finish line, regardless of their placement.

Under the theme "Inheriting Folk Traditions,全民運動 (Quanmin Yundong - National Fitness), Team Competition," the race aims to blend traditional customs with modern sporting endeavors. Participants can register in various categories, including government agencies, open groups, and mixed teams. Each team can register up to 24 members, fostering a strong sense of camaraderie and collective effort. Beyond the main race, the event will feature family-friendly activities, including interactive games that celebrate the Duanwu Festival and local Xinfeng culture, as well as a "Technology Dragon Boat" experience, ensuring engagement for all ages.

The county government, through its Education Bureau, has set a clear registration deadline of 5 PM on May 18th, with all applications to be submitted online via the official event website. This initiative not only promotes the rich cultural heritage associated with the Dragon Boat Festival but also encourages physical activity and community bonding. With substantial prize money for the top finishers – up to NT$100,000 for the open group and NT$70,000 for the mixed group – the Hsinchu County Mayor's Cup Dragon Boat Race promises to be a thrilling display of speed, strength, and team spirit, making it a highlight of the local calendar.
