Huachipato snatches late draw against Cobresal to stay in cup contention

Huachipato salvaged a dramatic 3-3 draw against Cobresal in the dying moments of their match in Talcahuano, securing their place in international cup contention. The home team initially dominated the first half, taking the lead in the 14th minute through a precise header from Rafael Caroca, capitalizing on Cobresal's passive approach.

The momentum shifted significantly in the second half. Cobresal emerged with renewed vigor, quickly equalizing in the 49th minute via Steffan Pino. Julián Brea then put the visitors ahead with a goal against his former club just seven minutes later. The lead was extended to 3-1 in the 70th minute when Nicolás Vargas unfortunately scored an own goal for Cobresal.

However, Huachipato refused to yield. They staged a remarkable comeback in the final minutes. Maximiliano Rodríguez narrowed the deficit in the 81st minute, and Lionel Altamirano sealed the equalizer with a header in the 90+6th minute. Prior to the final goal, Cobresal's Kevin Altez received a direct red card after a heated argument with referee Héctor Jona.

With this result, Huachipato remains in sixth place in the league standings with 24 points. Cobresal, meanwhile, stays in the relegation zone with 14 points. Huachipato is scheduled to play Universidad de Chile away on Sunday, August 2, while Cobresal will host Unión La Calera on Saturday, August 1.
