Human remains found during water utility work in Cumaná

In Cumaná, Sucre state, a routine maintenance operation by Hidrocaribe workers took a grim turn on April 29 when they unearthed human remains. The discovery was made during excavation work on the main water pipeline in the Barrio Venezuela sector, specifically at the intersection of Pan-American Avenue and 1st Street. Videos of the scene, showing the discovery and the subsequent arrival of security forces, quickly circulated on social media, drawing local attention to the unsettling find. The Scientific, Criminal, and Forensic Investigations Corps (Cicpc) has taken charge of the investigation, securing the perimeter and collecting evidence. Forensic anthropologists and specialists will now work to identify the remains, determine the individual's sex, and establish the time of death.
