Hyderabad life paralyzed by Sunday rain, power outages widespread

Routine life in Hyderabad ground to a halt as the city endured intermittent rainfall on Sunday. The Pakistan Meteorological Department reported that the Met Office in Latifabad recorded 42mm of rain, with the City Office measuring 40mm by 5pm. Power outages were widespread, with the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) spokesperson confirming that electricity remained suspended on 285 of its 722 11kV feeders. In Hyderabad city alone, 66 out of 166 feeders were non-operational.

The heavy downpour submerged major arteries and roads across the city. This inundation, coupled with power outages, severely affected the water supply facilities of the Hyderabad Water and Sewerage Corporation (HWSC). Business activities in key commercial areas like the City Cloth Market, Tower Market, and Anaj Mandi, as well as in Latifabad Units 5, 10, 11, and 12, were disrupted as businesses struggled with submerged access roads.

Elsewhere in Sindh, Mithi district recorded the highest rainfall at 126mm by Sunday morning, followed by Chhor with 81mm and Badin with 69mm. The PMD had previously forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall for parts of Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan until August 4.
