Icelandic Farm Prioritizes Natural Environments for Animal Welfare and Visitor Experience

In the scenic Fnjóskadalur valley, approximately 25 kilometers from Akureyri, lies Daladýrð, a farm that places a strong emphasis on the well-being of its animals. Guðbergur Egill Eyjólfsson explains that the farm is dedicated to ensuring animals are kept in environments that are both natural and conducive to their inherent behaviors.

Daladýrð, which opened its doors as a petting zoo about a decade ago, has seen a steady increase in visitors each year. The opening of the Vaðlaheiði tunnel six years prior significantly reduced travel time from Akureyri, making the farm more accessible. The majority of its visitors are Icelanders, including many families who use the farm as a destination during their summer travels.

The farm offers a unique opportunity for children to connect with and learn about various Icelandic animal breeds. This hands-on experience allows young visitors to see and interact with the animals in a setting that reflects their natural habitats, fostering a greater appreciation for the country's agricultural heritage.
