IFRC releases nearly $1 million in emergency funds for Nepal flood response

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) has released nearly CHF 1 million (approximately Rs 189.5 million) in emergency funding to bolster the Nepal Red Cross Society's efforts in responding to severe flash floods that have devastated parts of the country.

The funding, channeled through the IFRC's Disaster Response Emergency Fund (DREF), aims to address urgent needs as teams on the ground assess the full extent of the damage. The support will help identify communities requiring immediate assistance and facilitate the distribution of essential supplies.

"The priority now is to reach affected communities and get assistance to people who have lost their homes, suffered injuries or have been cut off," the IFRC stated in a press release. The organization is closely monitoring the situation and is prepared to offer additional support should the needs escalate.

The Nepal Red Cross has already commenced distributing critical items such as drinking water, tarpaulins, blankets, sleeping mats, first aid kits, stretchers, and body bags. The IFRC is providing not only financial aid but also operational coordination and technical assistance, with regional and global teams on standby for further international support if required.
