Illegal Firework Production Suspected After Blast Kills One, Injures Three in Phu Tho

A powerful explosion rocked a lodging house in Phu Tho province, Vietnam, on August 29, claiming the life of one young man and leaving three others with severe injuries requiring urgent medical attention. The blast, which occurred around 1:10 PM in Binh Xuyen commune, also caused substantial damage to multiple rooms within the lodging complex.

Residents in the vicinity reported hearing a loud bang, after which numerous rooms were destroyed, and fragments of walls and belongings were propelled outwards, some traveling dozens of meters. Upon discovering the injured, locals immediately called for ambulances and alerted law enforcement.

Responding to the incident, two Deputy Directors of the Phu Tho Provincial Police were present at the scene, directing the forensic examination and investigation. Evidence recovered from the site included numerous casings and finished fireworks, along with yellow powder suspected to be sulfur and black powder, commonly used in firework manufacturing.

Initial police assessments suggest the explosion is linked to the illicit production of fireworks. The deceased was identified as a male, while the three injured individuals were transported to Vinh Phuc General Hospital for treatment. Three rooms on the fourth floor sustained damage, along with other nearby rooms and the corrugated iron roof in the common courtyard.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the full extent of the suspects' involvement and the origin of the materials used in the suspected illegal manufacturing operation.
