Imo APC to obey NWC directives, backs Uzodimma

The Imo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has affirmed its commitment to following the National Working Committee's (NWC) directives concerning the party's primary elections. Dr. Jones Onwuasoanya, the party's spokesperson in the state, emphasized the unity within the Imo APC, stating that the state chapter will present its preferred mode of primaries but will ultimately abide by the NWC's final decision.

The state chapter will make its recommendation as to the mode of primaries it wishes to adopt, but the final decision lies with the National Working Committee of the party. The Imo State chapter of the party shall abide by any decision reached by the NWC.

On the matter of consensus candidacy, Onwuasoanya declared that Governor Hope Uzodimma is the undisputed consensus candidate for the Imo West senatorial seat, should he accept the party's call to contest. He asserted that subjecting the governor to any primary contest would be a waste of time, given the unanimous desire of party members for his election to the Senate. This reflects a strong endorsement of Uzodimma's performance and a desire to consolidate the party's electoral gains.

In Imo West Senatorial District, the party is unapologetic about its adoption of Senator Hope Uzodimma as the sole aspirant, if he accepts the call by party members from the district and across Imo State and beyond to step forward and vie for the senatorial election.

Despite the emphasis on consensus, the party has seen an impressive turnout of aspirants, with over 150 individuals purchasing nomination forms for the Senate, House of Representatives, and State House of Assembly. Onwuasoanya noted that while governorship primaries are not being conducted in Imo State at this time, there is healthy competition across other constituencies. He further highlighted that approximately 98% of aspirants are open to the consensus option, indicating a party culture that values internal agreement and party leadership's decisions. The Imo APC presents itself as a united family, poised to leverage its current standing for future electoral successes.

The governor has done well and I can tell you that trying to subject him to any form of contest would be a waste of useful time because party members are unanimous about their desire for him to be elected to the Senate.
