Incheon City Conducts Comprehensive On-Site Inspections to Prevent Major Public Disasters

Incheon City is taking a proactive stance against potential public safety threats by initiating thorough on-site inspections aimed at preventing major civilian disasters. Moving beyond superficial checks, the city administration is committed to rigorously verifying the effectiveness of safety systems in real-world conditions. This initiative reflects a heightened awareness of the importance of robust safety protocols in safeguarding the lives and well-being of its citizens.

The inspections, scheduled to commence on the 11th, will cover 320 locations, including public use facilities and raw material manufacturers. The focus will be on the mandatory compliance requirements stipulated by the Act on the Punishment of Serious Accidents, particularly concerning the direct oversight by management executives. Inspectors will meticulously examine the appropriate allocation of safety personnel and budgets, the progress of hazardous factor remediation, and the establishment of procedural frameworks.

To overcome the limitations of document-based reviews, Incheon City is incorporating private sector experts into the inspection process. These specialists will assess whether the management measures mandated by law are actually functioning effectively on the ground. For facilities with minor deficiencies, immediate on-site corrections will be mandated. Furthermore, the city will provide direct administrative consulting services to facilities struggling to establish comprehensive safety and health systems, offering tailored support to enhance their capabilities.
