Incheon Subway Stations to Feature Unmanned Currency Exchange Kiosks

Incheon City is taking a significant step to enhance convenience for its substantial foreign resident population and the increasing number of international visitors by deploying unmanned currency exchange kiosks across key subway stations. With nearly 170,000 foreign nationals residing in Incheon and over a million tourists visiting in 2024, the demand for accessible currency exchange services has been on a steady rise.

The initiative, which began with installations at Bupyeong, Incheon Terminal, and Technopark stations on April 13, will expand to Gyeyang and Geomam stations in May. These kiosks offer the flexibility to exchange up to 15 foreign currencies into Korean Won and can also purchase major foreign currencies like USD and JPY. The inclusion of barrier-free features, such as braille buttons and voice guidance, ensures these services are accessible to everyone.

Previously, currency exchange machines were largely confined to hotels and the international airport, creating accessibility challenges for many. The strategic placement of these new kiosks within the subway network aims to bridge this gap, offering a more convenient and integrated financial service for both residents and tourists. This move is expected to particularly benefit foreign students and workers who previously had to travel to banks or the airport for such transactions, thereby improving their overall financial experience in the city.
