Indonesia Eyes Hydrogen Fuel for TransJakarta Buses; Discussion Planned

Indonesia's Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, intends to discuss the potential implementation of hydrogen-powered buses within Jakarta's TransJakarta public transportation system. The minister plans to engage with Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung on this matter.

The proposed adoption of hydrogen fuel technology for the bus fleet is part of a broader strategy to improve urban mobility. Officials hope that such initiatives will not only increase the number of people using public transport but also contribute to alleviating the persistent traffic congestion issues plaguing the capital city.

This potential move towards hydrogen fuel comes after Jakarta has explored other sustainable transport options. Previously, the city has seen initiatives such as the introduction of electric buses and adjustments to fares for routes like Transjabodetabek. The city has also previously offered free public transport on specific days and seen discussions around incentives for electric public transportation vehicles.
