Indonesia's Culture Ministry, ANTARA Explore Cultural Preservation Collaboration

Indonesia's Ministry of Culture and the national news agency ANTARA are joining forces to bolster the preservation and promotion of the nation's rich cultural heritage. Officials from both institutions met in Jakarta to discuss potential synergies, focusing on areas where ANTARA's extensive experience in journalism, historical documentation, and photography can support the ministry's objectives.

Minister of Culture Fadli Zon highlighted ANTARA's significant role in Indonesia's press history, viewing the agency as a crucial witness to the nation's journey. He expressed confidence that their combined efforts could yield impactful programs, particularly in historical exhibitions and the development of a photography museum. "I am sure we can synergize activities and programs at the Ministry of Culture with ANTARA, especially concerning press, history, photography, and other aspects of cultural advancement," Fadli Zon stated.

Zon specifically proposed that ANTARA organize photo and document exhibitions commemorating Indonesia's Independence Day on August 17th. He also envisioned collaboration on historical photos and documents for a planned photography museum, underscoring the potential for ANTARA to contribute to preserving tangible pieces of national history.

ANTARA's Director General, Benny Siga Butarbutar, affirmed the news agency's commitment to playing a more active role in disseminating government policies on cultural preservation. He emphasized that culture encompasses a broad spectrum beyond just arts, including history, traditions, and societal aspects. "Culture is vast, and ANTARA is expected to take a more active role in amplifying cultural policies... Culture is not just about art. It includes many aspects. There are 10 cultural indicators, from history, tradition, and society, to art itself," Benny explained. He reiterated ANTARA's readiness to assist the ministry in establishing the photography museum, leveraging its extensive archives to provide historical context for the public.
