Indonesia’s Home Affairs Ministry Strengthens Post-Earthquake Response in East Nusa Tenggara, Urges Regional Cooperation

Indonesia’s Home Affairs Ministry is seeking help from governments beyond East Nusa Tenggara as it manages the earthquake’s impact, particularly in East Manggarai district.

Home Affairs Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian visited affected areas, inspected several sites and coordinated with local governments on the response and recovery. The ministry provided compensation for the heirs of people who died, two generators, 10 folding beds and support for two affected villages. The assistance is intended to meet residents’ immediate needs and help emergency posts continue operating.

Authorities are also prioritizing faster assessments of residents’ conditions and earthquake damage. Accurate data will guide decisions on further aid and provide a basis for rehabilitation and reconstruction in affected areas.

Tito said the response requires joint action by government and communities. “This must be cooperation between the government and the community,” he said.

Support has also come from outside East Nusa Tenggara. The governments of North Maluku, East Java and Bali have provided assistance to affected residents. Meanwhile, the Home Affairs Ministry’s Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration has sent teams to several affected districts to help residents replace identity documents that were lost or damaged in the earthquake.
