Indonesia's joint legislative session preparations 90% complete

Preparations for a significant joint session of Indonesia's highest legislative bodies are nearing completion, with 90 percent of arrangements finalized, according to Sultan Bachtiar Najamudin, the Speaker of the Regional Representative Council (DPD).

The joint session, which will bring together the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR), the House of Representatives (DPR), and the DPD, is slated to take place on Friday, August 14th. Speaker Sultan confirmed the near-complete status after overseeing a rehearsal at the parliamentary complex on Thursday, August 13th. He noted that all stakeholders have been involved and the event's schedule is well-defined.

Sultan emphasized the importance of maintaining a respectful and ethical atmosphere during the proceedings, aligning with calls from the Speaker of the DPR, Puan Maharani. He reminded members that both the DPD and DPR operate under the MPR, underscoring the need to uphold the dignity and ethical standards of these state institutions. "It is only fitting that we maintain our attitude and ethics. I personally urge that we must maintain that attitude and ethics," Sultan stated.

Looking ahead to the session, Sultan expressed hope for a solemn event free from incidents that could generate negative public perception. The program will feature nationalistic and patriotic songs. He believes that this event, coinciding with the 81st anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia, will serve as a valuable moment to strengthen national unity among all elements of the nation.
