Indonesia Says 94% of Gas Stations Now Distribute B50 Biodiesel

Indonesia’s transition to B50 biodiesel has reached most of the country’s fuel stations, with about 94 percent now distributing the palm oil-based blend. Eniya Listiani Dewi, the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry’s director general for new, renewable energy and energy conservation, said 6,050 locations had started distribution, while 360 remained in transition.

Of 104 delivery terminals, 76 were distributing B50 and 28 were still moving from B40 to B50. Pertamina Patra Niaga President Director Mars Ega Legowo Putra gave a higher figure for the company’s fuel infrastructure, saying 120 of its 121 terminals had begun distribution. The Sintang terminal remained the exception.

Sintang’s rollout has been held up by weather conditions. Mars Ega said the dry season had reduced water levels in some rivers, making it difficult to access the river channel serving the terminal.

Biodiesel distribution reached 10.69 million kiloliters by September 2026. B40 accounted for 7.27 million kiloliters between January and June, while B50 reached 3.42 million kiloliters after its rollout began in early July. The government expects supplies of fatty acid methyl ester, the ingredient used in the blend, to reach 16.8 million to 18 million kiloliters this year.

The ministry has allowed the transition from B40 to B50 to continue through September 30, 2026. Trials are now underway for trains, while testing for automotive, machine tools and agriculture, heavy mining equipment, sea transportation and power generation has been completed.
