Indonesia Urges Global Action on Israel's Conduct in Palestinian Territories

Indonesia has called for unified international action to address what it describes as Israel's ongoing violations in Palestinian territories, specifically in East Jerusalem and the Al Aqsa Mosque compound. The appeal was made by Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Nasir during a ministerial meeting on Jerusalem held in Amman, Jordan.

Indonesia urges the international community to no longer rely on old approaches. We must stop allowing violations and stop addressing them in a fragmented manner.

Nasir urged the global community to abandon outdated strategies and cease allowing violations to occur in a fragmented manner. "Division is a gap that Israel has always taken advantage of," he stated, emphasizing that the Palestinian cause transcends religious or regional boundaries and is a significant global concern, particularly for countries in the Global South. He noted that even nations with close ties to Israel have imposed sanctions on Israeli settlers.

During the meeting, Nasir highlighted the volatile political landscape in the Middle East, citing rising tensions related to Israeli settler activities in the West Bank, the military campaign in Gaza, and broader regional escalations. He proposed a five-point plan to advance support for Palestine. This includes creating a cohesive strategy grounded in international law and ICJ decisions, increasing global recognition of Palestinian sovereignty, bolstering efforts to protect the Al Aqsa Mosque compound, and supporting Gaza's reconstruction, Palestinian national unity, and the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA).

Indonesia also reaffirmed its support for Jordan's Hashemite royal family's custodianship of Jerusalem's holy sites, including the Al Aqsa Mosque compound. The Amman meeting convened representatives from several Arab and Muslim-majority nations, including Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Turkey, Pakistan, Malaysia, and Qatar. In a joint statement, delegates backed Palestinian institutions in Jerusalem, opposed unilateral moves to relocate diplomatic missions to the city, and pledged to raise global awareness of Israeli violations and their consequences.
