Indonesia Urges Public Transport Users to Ensure Vehicle Roadworthiness for Demonstrations

Indonesia's Directorate General of Land Transportation (Ditjen Perhubungan Darat) has issued a call for public transport users to ensure their vehicles meet technical and administrative requirements for roadworthiness. The appeal comes as the public prepares for upcoming demonstrations, emphasizing the importance of safe travel for all.

Director General Aan Suhanan stressed that using licensed and roadworthy vehicles is crucial for ensuring the safety and security of passengers, especially when transporting large groups. He specifically urged those using buses to verify that the vehicles possess valid permits and have passed regular inspections, evidenced by up-to-date periodic test results.

Suhanan noted that his office has encountered buses operating with expired documentation. Consequently, strict action will be taken against bus operators found to be using vehicles with invalid administrative documents or overdue periodic inspections. To facilitate checks, the public can utilize the Spionam or Mitra Darat applications, which allow users to input a vehicle's license plate number to view its permit status and inspection records.

The Directorate General also extended its advisory to bus operators, urging them to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy and that drivers are in good health and adequately rested. Suhanan highlighted that these collective efforts are essential for achieving safe and secure journeys for everyone involved.

Before using a bus, the public can check on the Spionam or Mitra Darat application; just enter the vehicle number, and the status of the vehicle's permit and periodic inspection documents will appear. Transportation operators must also ensure their vehicles are roadworthy, and the drivers must be healthy and have enough rest, as this is a joint effort to achieve safe and secure travel.
