Indonesian government assures neutrality in upcoming NU congress

The Indonesian government has firmly stated its commitment to neutrality and non-interference in the upcoming 35th Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Muktamar, the highest forum for the prominent Islamic organization. Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Romo Muhammad Syafi’i assured that the government fully respects NU's autonomy in organizing the event.

"The government will not intervene or interfere in the dynamics and internal processes of the 35th NU Muktamar," Syafi’i said in Jakarta on Thursday. He emphasized that the government is entrusting the entire process, including deliberations and decisions, to NU's internal mechanisms and established rules.

The government fully respects the independence of Nahdlatul Ulama in holding the muktamar as the highest forum of the organization. The government will not intervene or interfere in the dynamics and internal processes of the 35th NU Muktamar.

To ensure impartiality, Syafi’i directed all officials within the Ministry of Religious Affairs, from the central to the local levels, to maintain strict neutrality. They are instructed to perform their duties professionally and avoid supporting or showing favoritism towards any particular party or candidate involved in the Muktamar.

This stance underscores the government's policy of respecting the independence of religious organizations and allowing them to manage their internal affairs without external influence. The focus remains on ensuring a smooth and fair process for the NU's leadership selection and policy-making.

All Ministry of Religious Affairs officials must remain professional, carry out their duties according to their respective main tasks and functions, and not provide support or take sides with any particular party or candidate.
