Indonesian Judicial Commission Begins Interviews for Supreme Court Candidates

The Indonesian Judicial Commission (KY) has officially commenced open interviews for candidates vying for positions as Supreme Court justices and specialized ad hoc judges. The process involves 19 candidates for Supreme Court justice, two for ad hoc Human Rights judge, and two for ad hoc Corruption judge at the Supreme Court.

These crucial interviews are scheduled to take place from Monday, August 3, to Friday, August 7, 2026. According to KY Chairman Abdul Chair Ramadhan, the open interviews are designed not only to evaluate the candidates' intellectual prowess, experience, and overall competence but also to delve into their integrity, independence, leadership qualities, commitment to upholding the law, and their sensitivity to societal justice values.

The open interviews are not only to test the intellectual capacity, experience, and competence of the candidates, but also to explore their integrity, independence, leadership, commitment to law enforcement, and sensitivity to the values of justice that live in the community.

The Supreme Court requested this selection process to fill existing vacancies. Specifically, the court needs to appoint 11 Supreme Court justices across various chambers: two from the Civil Law chamber, four from the Criminal Law chamber, two from the Religious Law chamber, and three from the State Administrative Law chamber, including tax-related cases. Additionally, there are vacancies for two ad hoc Human Rights judges and one ad hoc Corruption judge.

Following these open interviews, the KY will determine the successful candidates. Their recommendations will be forwarded to the House of Representatives (DPR) for final approval. The KY expressed its hope that the selected individuals will be the best candidates, possessing strong integrity and professionalism, capable of delivering just verdicts, and guiding the development of national law while reinforcing public trust in the judiciary.
