Indonesian man shot dead by neighbor over circumcision invitations

A fatal shooting occurred in Lampung Timur, Indonesia, where a 42-year-old man named Pendi was killed by his neighbor, Andi Rustam. The incident took place on Thursday in Dusun 1 Desa Negri Agung, Gunung Pelindung District.

Initial reports suggest the fatal altercation arose from a disagreement concerning the distribution of invitations for a circumcision ceremony. The suspect, known locally as Popon, had allegedly asked Pendi to help distribute invitations for his son's ceremony, scheduled for July 7, 2026. When Popon inquired about the progress, Pendi explained that due to his inability to read, he had entrusted the task to a friend.

This explanation reportedly offended the suspect, leading to a heated argument. In a fit of anger, Popon allegedly produced a firearm and shot Pendi. The victim sustained a serious gunshot wound to the head and died at the scene before receiving medical attention.

Following the shooting, the suspect fled the location. Local residents alerted the Gunung Pelindung Police. Officers from the police sector and Lampung Timur Resort Police arrived to process the crime scene, transport the victim's body to the Bhayangkara Hospital, and gather witness statements. The police are currently pursuing the suspect and maintaining a presence in the area to prevent further conflict.

The perpetrator asked the victim if the invitations had been distributed or not. The victim replied yes, but that they had been entrusted to someone else. Perhaps this made the perpetrator emotional, leading to the bloody incident that resulted in the victim's death from a gunshot wound to the head.
