Indonesian Minister Backs National Electric Motorcycle Development

Indonesian Minister of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Ferry Juliantono has voiced strong support for the development of a national electric motorcycle, viewing it as a crucial step towards bolstering the grassroots economy and fostering domestic industrial self-reliance.

During the GenCoopRun event, part of the National Cooperatives Day 2026 celebrations held in Jakarta, Minister Ferry personally tested a MIMO multipurpose electric motorcycle. This model, designed by Indonesian innovators, is specifically tailored to the country's road conditions, rider needs, and the livelihoods of its people.

Minister Ferry emphasized that the MIMO electric motorcycle exemplifies the spirit of economic independence, which is central to the cooperative movement. He stated, "National electric motorcycles like this are proof that the nation's children are capable of meeting their own people's needs. If the innovation is born domestically, then the added value must also be enjoyed by our people. This is where cooperatives can come in, as a vehicle for the transition to electric vehicles."

The minister's endorsement signals a commitment to promoting local innovation and ensuring that the economic benefits of the burgeoning electric vehicle sector remain within Indonesia.
