Indonesian Ministry of Defense graduates 33,785 village cooperative managers

Indonesia's Ministry of Defense is set to graduate 33,785 participants from the inaugural batch of its Indonesian Village Development Scholar (SPPI) program. These individuals have undergone intensive training to become managers for the Red and White Village Cooperatives (Koperasi Desa/Kelurahan Merah Putih - KDKMP) and Red and White Fishing Villages (Kampung Nelayan Merah Putih - KNMP).

The 45-day training program, which concludes on July 31, 2026, at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in East Jakarta, saw a total of 33,846 participants initially enroll. The cohort comprised 30,000 aspiring KDKMP managers and 5,476 for KNMP, including three operational staff. Of the initial group, 33,785 successfully completed the rigorous training across 67 TNI education units nationwide.

Major General Ketut Gede Wetan Pastia, Head of the Defense Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDM) of the Ministry of Defense, informed reporters that 61 participants did not complete the program. Reasons cited included health issues, psychological challenges, and voluntary withdrawals. "I repeat, some resigned because they chose to return to their previous professions," Pastia stated during a press conference at the Ministry of Defense in Jakarta.

The SPPI program is designed to equip participants with the necessary skills to manage village-level cooperatives and fishing village initiatives, contributing to local economic development. The initiative reflects the Ministry of Defense's broader strategy to foster community development and self-sufficiency through structured training and empowerment programs.
