Indonesian Parliament to discuss Asset Forfeiture Bill and State Budget today amid planned protests

The Indonesian Parliament (DPR) is convening a plenary session today, August 27, to address critical legislative agenda items, including the ongoing development of the Asset Forfeiture Bill and deliberations on the State Budget.

According to reports, the session will feature a presentation of the progress report from Commission III of the DPR regarding the Rancangan Undang-Undang (RUU) or Bill on Asset Forfeiture. This discussion is particularly significant given the government's commitment to finalizing the bill this year. The plenary meeting is scheduled to take place in the main plenary chamber of the Nusantara II Building at the parliamentary complex.

In parallel with the parliamentary proceedings, a demonstration is anticipated from the alliance of the Pati community and their allies outside the complex. Beyond the Asset Forfeiture Bill, the agenda also includes discussions on the accountability for the implementation of the 2025 State Budget, the government's response to the general views of parliamentary factions on the 2027 State Budget and its financial notes, and revisions to the National Legislation Program (Prolegnas). Additionally, the DPR will review the results of the fit and proper test for candidates for the Head of the Supervisory Executive of Strategic Minerals and Commodities of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and discuss a bill concerning forestry.
