Indonesian Parliamentary Body Backs Mission to Break Gaza Blockade

The Indonesian House of Representatives' Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Body (BKSAP) has voiced its strong support for Indonesian citizens joining the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) mission, an initiative aimed at breaching the blockade on Gaza. This backing signifies Indonesia's consistent commitment to aiding the Palestinian cause and advocating for an end to the occupation.

Syahrul Aidi Maazat, the Chairman of BKSAP, conveyed his encouragement to the participants, praying for their strength, safety, and the ultimate achievement of Palestinian independence. This mission, GSF 2.0, sees the Indonesian contingent (GPCI) actively involved, with delegates already in Barcelona, Spain, for the departure ceremony. Several Indonesian volunteers are participating both by sea and through a land convoy from Libya to Gaza via Egypt.

The GSF mission, involving over a thousand volunteers from at least 100 countries and a fleet of over 100 ships from Europe, is a significant international civilian effort. Maimon Herawati, GPCI's Steering Committee Coordinator, has specifically appealed to the Indonesian government in Jakarta for official support, blessings, and protection for its citizens involved. This call for protection is crucial, given the historical instances of participants being detained or abducted by Israeli forces, and facing intimidation or deportation risks in transit countries.

The core objective of the Global Sumud Flotilla is purely humanitarian: to deliver essential supplies like medicine, food, and clean water, along with necessities for women and children in Gaza, a region still under blockade and occupation by Israel. Indonesia's participation underscores its solidarity with the Palestinian people and its dedication to humanitarian aid.
