Indonesian Police Vow No Impunity for Officers in Drug Cases

Indonesia's National Police (Polri) has declared a zero-tolerance policy for any personnel involved in drug-related offenses, emphasizing that no officer will receive special treatment or impunity. This firm stance comes after the arrest of Ajun Komisaris Pardiman, the head of the South Tangerang Police's Narcotics Unit, along with six of his subordinates and one officer from the Aceh Regional Police.

Inspektur Jenderal Johnny Edizzon Isir, Head of the Public Relations Division, stated that the police force does not tolerate the misuse of narcotics and psychotropics by the public or its own members. "The police leadership has firmly guaranteed that there is no impunity for police personnel involved in narcotics networks," Johnny said in a written statement on Monday, July 27, 2026. He added that Polri is implementing stricter examination standards for its officers to uphold the institution's integrity.

The Directorate of Narcotics Crimes at the Criminal Investigation Unit (Bareskrim) is currently handling the criminal proceedings for the eight officers. Investigators are thoroughly examining the case to uncover all alleged criminal activities and the specific roles of each individual. Simultaneously, the Professional and Security Division (Bidpropam) of the Metro Jaya Regional Police will address any alleged violations of the professional code of ethics.

"Polri ensures that the entire handling process, both criminal and ethical aspects, will be conducted professionally, transparently, and in accordance with applicable laws and regulations," Johnny stated. He further assured the public that developments in the case would be communicated transparently, with the Directorate of Narcotics Crimes providing official statements detailing the case's construction, the alleged roles of the parties involved, and the investigators' findings. "This is part of Polri's commitment to maintaining accountability and public trust," Johnny concluded.
