INEC to Deploy Nigeria’s First Real-Time Election Readiness Tracker Ahead of 2027

Nigeria’s electoral commission plans to introduce a real-time system that will allow officials to see the state of election preparations across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory at a glance.

INEC Chairman Joash Amupitan announced the initiative while opening a two-day strategic operational workshop for administrative secretaries at the Marriott Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos. The workshop is expected to produce a standardised Excel-based Administrative Secretary Master Operational Tracker Template.

The template will connect directly to INEC’s Election Monitoring and Support Centre dashboard and its Election Project Plan. Amupitan said the commission had lacked a uniform mechanism for monitoring the operational responsibilities of administrative secretaries. Once deployed, the tracker will give senior officials visibility into material distribution, ad hoc staff training and state-level readiness.

He described the tool as a way to replace “reactive panic with proactive management.”

The chairman said the system would remain as a permanent onboarding blueprint beyond the 2027 election. He linked it to efforts to maintain a clean voter register and make permanent voter card collection seamless as enrolment approaches 100 million. Continuous Voter Registration, logistics and materials, electoral technology, ad hoc staff optimisation and financial compliance are among the workshop’s five operational pillars.

Amupitan said the tracker drew on lessons from recent off-cycle elections, including the Osun State governorship election, where he said disciplined logistics and functioning technology produced a transparent result. INEC now aims to replicate that standard nationally during the six months remaining before the 2027 general election. Lagos Resident Electoral Commissioner Ayobami Salami called the workshop timely, while Commission Secretary Rose Oriaran-Anthony said it would align headquarters and state operations around the same Election Project Plan.
