Peter Obi to Baba-Ahmed: I Can Transform, Bring Honour to Nigeria

Peter Obi says his record in Anambra shows he can transform Nigeria, directly rejecting former running mate Datti Baba-Ahmed’s bleak assessment of the leading contenders for the 2027 presidential election.

In an interview with Arise News anchor Ojy Okpe, Obi said Nigeria’s vast problems could be overcome through purposeful leadership, institutional reforms and a deliberate focus on key areas of national development. “I passed in particular areas of development. And I can do the same thing for Nigeria,” he said.

Obi outlined an agenda built around national unity, security, justice, law and order, anti-corruption efforts and investment in sectors that could improve Nigerians’ welfare and productivity. He also promised to restore the country’s reputation and rebuild public confidence in government, saying leadership should deliver tangible improvements in citizens’ lives.

He repeated his commitment to fighting corruption and maintaining justice and the rule of law. He also said credible elections were essential to the survival and development of Nigeria’s democracy, and that electoral malpractice would have no place under his leadership.

The Peter Obi Movement for Rescue said Baba-Ahmed’s assessment reflected the depth of Nigeria’s problems but did not adequately consider Obi’s record. Separately, Obi described Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde as eminently qualified to lead Nigeria in 2027 while speaking at the opening of Makinde’s presidential campaign office. The NDC candidate has consistently called for a shift from a consumption-driven economy toward production and investment in human capital.
