Influencer's wife left blind and paraplegic after childbirth; family alleges medical errors

Mexican influencer Brandon Hernández, known online as "Soy el May," has publicly shared a devastating account of his wife's health crisis following childbirth. María Fernanda, or "Mafer," reportedly became blind and paraplegic after delivering their daughter, María Victoria, on June 6 at the San Ángel Inn Chapultepec hospital in Mexico City.

According to Hernández's social media posts, which he has used to document the situation for over 57 days, the birth itself initially appeared uncomplicated. However, minutes after delivery, his wife's condition drastically changed, necessitating emergency medical intervention. He claims a medication administered to her triggered a cardiac arrest, during which she reportedly had no vital signs for seven minutes.

Although Mafer recovered from a coma, her recovery remains complex. Hernández stated that his wife has not regained her sight and continues to experience paraplegia. She is also reportedly suffering from anxiety, and the family claims they have not received clear explanations about the medications she is receiving or the overall treatment plan. "My wife is entering an anxiety crisis. They are not explaining to us what medications they are giving her. She says she cannot see," Hernández stated in one video.

The influencer also alleges several medical irregularities occurred during his wife's hospital care. He claims the hospital has not provided sufficient information about her treatment or the drugs administered, and that there has been no consistent physician overseeing her case. Furthermore, Hernández suggested that crucial diagnostic tests, such as an MRI, were allegedly delayed due to a lack of necessary supplies at the hospital. The family has initiated legal proceedings regarding the matter.
