International Encarnación Theatre Festival 2027 sets launch date for Rocemí anniversary

Rocemí academy will mark its 18th anniversary on September 9 by opening the call for the 2027 International Encarnación Theatre Festival, an annual showcase that attracts theatre companies from around the world.

The academy is also preparing a cultural program running from September through December. On September 9, the Paraná Auditorium will screen award-winning short films made by the academy from 8 a.m. The following day will feature junior and youth short films from 5 p.m., followed on September 11 by a screening of Fernando Pacheco’s film “Et reflexum” at 8 p.m.

The recognized play “Residentas” will be performed on October 6 at 8 a.m., 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The performances aim to raise funds for participation in the International Theatre Festival Traslasierra in Córdoba, Argentina, from October 15 to 18.

Rocemí is also preparing a major musical featuring recognized artists from Encarnación. Director Patricia Benítez said the production, titled “The Grand Show,” is expected to premiere on October 30 under the direction of Noemí Britez. It will run every Friday in November at 8 p.m. at the Paraná Auditorium.

Student closing performances will continue in December, keeping the program focused on art and theatre through the end of the year. Benítez said promoting culture is difficult, particularly outside Paraguay’s major centers, where artistic ventures receive less support. “The road was difficult. There were times when we performed to empty halls, but over time we overcame that, and today we can say that mission has been fulfilled,” she said.
